In this article, I will teach you on to get your career started. Please take note that even it is a step-by-step process but it can actually be interchanged depending on the situation you are dealing with.
1.) Set up “Office” at home
– who says your house cannot be your workplace? Think again. In a Virtual Assistant Career, it can definitely be! Just make sure to pick the most strategic area in your home.. It can be your very own bedroom or any other are in your house. Choose one with no or least distractions so that you can focus on your work. More than considering the area, give utmost importance on the laptop that you are going to use for your transactions. And of course, a reliable internet connection. DSL is one of the most preferred internet connections because of the speed an if your work requires more video calls just as like as “Skype”.
2.) Establish your professional electronic mail address.
This will serve as your “legal personality” in all transactions that you are going to make. You cannot establish credibility if in the e-mail itself, you would already sounds like bogus. It is very important to create an image that you are indeed professional to deal with.
3.) Establish your own blog and website – Don’t just stop with e-mail.
Do not just be contented of your social media accounts. Have your very own blog or website. If you are working as government employee in the Philippines, it served as your 201 file or your portfolio. In your blog, there can you see your assets as virtual assistant. Remember, you can always tell your prospect client to just refer on your blog if they want to know more about you.
4.) Curriculum vitae or resume
– Some clients may ask for a resume. Maybe because they do not have much time to explore your blog and they want initial attachment. Through your resume, they can have an instant glance of knowing the reasons if you are fit to work for them. So be ready at all times!
5.) Explore as many prospect clients as you can.
There are many ways on how to find your future employer or even employers. In the Philippines, some of the most popular sites for aspiring virtual assistant are Odesk.com, Bestjobs.ph, Elance.com, and a lot more. Referral of other virtual assistant can also be a source of finding a new client. (I will be writing an article of each site later on to guide you!)
6.) Repetition is the mother of all skills.
Never get tired of learning new things. Even if you are a newbie, or you already have so many clients, it is always important to learn more things, to explore further so you can develop deeper your career as Virtual Assistant. The more that you practice, the more that you become expert!
